Though I've been a Tiger fan all my life, I've been a Bobby Murcer fan since the 60's. I was sorry to hear about his brain cancer. I was diagnosed with a pair of Grade 4 brain tumors myself in August of last year. Surgery, radiation and chemo are the things I've gone through so far. No new tumors. I believe all survivors help sustain and inspire each other, so here's 1 more just letting you know, we're all in this together. Love you, Bob! Keep up the good fight.

You said it, Ajay! All of us cancer survivors are in it together.
Bobby, I was an obsessed fan of the 1972 - 1979 Yankees. You were my brother's favorite and I was in love with Thurman. We'd play catch in the street and he'd be you, throwing the ball to "home" from "centerfield", and I'd be Thurman, putting the tag on an imaginary runner. I never missed a game on t.v. I was devastated when you left NY, and ecstatic when you returned. You are a hero in the truest sense of the word. Bless you and your family.

I am very pleased to have found this site this evening. I am a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in April 2005. As an avid baseball autograph collector, my family and I made a donation to the Dwayne Murcer Foundation two years ago. In turn Mr. Murcer signed some wonderful photos and cards for us. A year later Mr. Murcer signed some additional photos for us. My connection to baseball, having been a MLB photographer and writer, has been my outlet and distraction during the diagnosis period and on through the treatment. My best to Bobby and to all my friends.

Hey Bobby - I am a cancer surviver too, but I'm writing mostly to let you know you meant so very much to me as a young girl in Brooklyn back in the days when you wore #1 for the Yankees. (I think they retired that number for the wrong guy!). Man, I LOVED YOU! You were THE superstar in my neighborhood and so many of us were devastated when you were traded. Still, you were our guy. About three or four years ago I was at Old Timers Day at the Stadium with my husbanc and and children . Between innings of the old timers game, you played catch with a young boy in the stands. You gave him instructions on how to throw better and the kid just beamed. So did we all. When the game resumed and you took your place in right field, everyone in our section stood and gave you a standing ovation. You waved it off. WOW. Looking at you through the cynical jaded eyes of an adult instead of the starry innocence of a child, I know you are the most decent, classiest and loveliest guy. My prayers are with you and your family. I am so grateful we have you to look up to and we always will. Prayers and light coming your way.
